Hurricanes Swoop Into Chicago With Commitment Of Defensive End Marquise Lightfoot

Marquise Lightfoot

Miami has landed their second defensive line commitment of the 2024 class with the verbal pledge of edge rusher Marquise Lightfoot. Lightfoot announced his commitment to the Hurricanes late Monday afternoon.

Lightfoot (6-5 220) attends Kenwood Academy in Chicago, Illinois and is ranked the No. 6 edge rusher in the 2024 recruiting class. He is also ranked the No. 67 player overall and the No. 3 player in Illinois per the 247Sports Composite.

Lightfoot took June official visits to Illinois, USC, Miami, and Ohio State. He also held offers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, and many others. The Buckeyes were thought to lead for the talented pass rusher until the last couple of days before his decision was revealed. At that point, rumors of Miami making a move began to be heard. On Monday, those whispers turned into a verbal commitment.

As a junior for Kenwood Academy, Marquise Lightfoot tallied 122 tackles and nine sacks last season. He was a First-Team All-State selection.

Lightfoot is obviously a very talented pass rusher, but his skill set goes beyond just getting upfield and getting after the quarterback. He is an all-around defender who will chase the ball until the whistle is blown. Lightfoot will continue to add weight as he prepares for his college football future.

The Hurricanes now have 15 verbal commitments in their 2024 class. Lightfoot is the highest-ranked member of their current class.
