Alabama head football coach Nick Saban is taking his time when it comes deciding who will lead his football team this fall. The on-going quarterback battle in Tuscaloosa remains a three-way competition between Notre Dame transfer Tyler Buchner along with youngsters Ty Simpson and Jalen Milroe.
Speaking at the SEC Media Days on Wednesday, Saban says he is no hurry to rush the process of selecting his signal caller for the upcoming season.
“There’s not a decision that needs to be made at this point in time,” Saban told reporters in Nashville. “Nor are we ready to make a decision at this time, until somebody separates themselves.”
As only Nick Saban can, he provided an analogy for the process of settling on a starting quarterback.
“Grandma Saban used to bake the best cakes in the world,” he started. “I used to stand by the oven as a kid and say ‘when’s this cake going to be done?’. And she would say, ‘if I don’t let it go through and I take it out of the oven too soon, it’s going to turn to mush.’ So I think we’ve got to let this sort of develop and make sure we let the cake bake until somebody separates themselves.”
