Southern Cal favorite to win Pac-12 in final season

Pac-12

Pac-12 media days are set to get underway on Friday in Las Vegas and while there are plenty of reports stating that a media deal will not be part of the event we do have some news as the Pac-12 preseason poll is out.

It should come as little surprise that USC tops the list of the 12 members of the Pac-12 as the Trojans are entering their final season as part of the conference before a move to the Big Ten along with UCLA.

The Trojans appear to be the overwhelming favorite to win the league with 25 of the 36 first place votes, with just 11 first place votes being spread amongst three other teams.

Washington comes in second while 2022 Pac-12 champions Utah comes in third place. Oregon rounds out the teams with first-place votes at No. 4 overall.

There are plenty of people uneasy about the future of the league with the departure of USC and UCLA along with the uncertainty of a media rights deal moving forward for the league.

With that uncertainty and with the league coming to the end of its current Grant-of-Rights, there are fears that if the number delivered by the league office is not at least close to the number the Big 12 is getting, that schools could look to leave and further damage the soon-to-be 10-team league further.

Another draw of media days will not come to pass as it was learned this week that new Colorado head coach Deion Sanders will not take part in media days as he has been dealing with some serious health issues that have required surgery.

His Buffaloes are a complete rebuild this year and the voters don’t feel that 2023 will be their year as they come in 11th out of 12 teams, only ahead of Stanford.
