The final edition of the four-team College Football Playoff format will take place during the 2023 season.
The CFP Selection Committee met this week and released Thursday its schedule of six rankings releases for this season. The first Top 25 will be unveiled Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. on ESPN.
Selection day this season will be Dec. 3 at noon, and it will also broadcast on ESPN.
Each Tuesday in November will feature a new, updated Top 25 released by the CFP Selection Committee. This season marks the end of an era in that it will be the final year of the four-team playoff.
The 2024 season will see the CFP expand to include 12 programs. Under its current model, six conference champions will earn automatic bids to the Playoff field and the six highest ranked remaining teams will round out the field.
In light of recent conference realignment, which has seen six Pac-12 programs depart the conference for either the Big Ten or the Big 12 in the past four weeks, the 12-team CFP model may need tweaked, something that has already been discussed in preparation.
