Houston has reportedly named its next starting quarterback ahead of the 2023 season.
According to Joseph Duarte of the Houston Chronicle, Cougars head coach Dana Holgorsen said junior Donovan Smith “is the clear cut starter” during fall camp.
Smith transferred after three seasons at Texas Tech. He threw for 2,686 yards and 19 touchdowns while appearing in 21 games.
Smith emerged in the quarterback competition against sophomore Lucas Coley, according to the Hoston Chronicle.
The 6-foot-5, 241-pound Smith will start Week 1 for Houston against UTSA on Sept. 2.
