Tagovailoa’s transfer comes with a caveat: He must obtain a waiver in order to play in the 2024 season, according to Max Olson of The Athletic.
Tagovailoa’s decision to play another season rather than jump to the NFL comes after four seasons at Maryland. He originally committed to Alabama, then transferred to the Terrapins after playing in four games with the Crimson Tide.
Tagovailoa amassed 11,256 passing yards across three seasons with the Terrapins, breaking Curtis Painter’s previous record.
He appeared in 37 games at Maryland, garnering the starting spot prior to the 2021 season. Tagovailoa passed for over 3,000 yards each year with the Terrapins, totaling a career-high 3,860 in 2021.
