No. 2 Washington is making its comeback bid in the College Football Playoff National Championship game.
With 42 seconds left in the second quarter, Huskies quarterback Michael Penix Jr. fired across the middle to receiver Jalen McMillan for a 3-yard touchdown. It brought Washington back within a score 17-10.
It was also Penix’s first touchdown of the game. It capped an 11-play, 61-yard drive that lasted 4 minutes.
Michigan leads 17-10 at halftime. The Wolverines totaled 290 yards in the first half to Washington’s 161.
Wolverines quarterback J.J. McCarthy went 5-of-11 for 81 passing yards. Michigan ran for 209 yards in the first half led by 93 yards from Donovan Edwards and 84 yards for Blake Corum.
Penix went 13-for-21 for 128 passing yards and a touchdown.
