Miller Moss threw a Holiday Bowl-record six touchdowns and Tahj Washington brought in two of them while USC beat No. 15 Louisville 42-28 on Wednesday night.

In the first ranked bowl game of the season, the unranked Trojans (8-5, 5-5 Pac-12 Conference) came out on top behind 443 yards of total offense. Miller was responsible for 385 of them.

Moss had four passing touchdowns in the first half, tying the Holiday Bowl record in just the first two quarters.

One of Moss’ mistakes came in the third quarter when he threw an interception at the goal line that was returned by Cardinals defensive back Josh Minkins 61 yards to the USC 20-yard line.

But Moss recovered. He threw a Pac-12 bowl game record-tying sixth touchdown to receiver Duce Robinson from 44 yards out — his farthest scoring throw of the game.

Special teams was the name of the game early on for USC. In the first half, the Trojans sniffed out a trick kickoff return by Louisville (10-4, 7-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) and also blocked a punt, setting them up for a touchdown to go ahead 21-7.

Louisville quarterback Jack Plummer, who played with a dislocated finger on his throwing hand, finished 21-of-25 for 141 passing yards.

The Cardinals scored on a 2-yard run from running back Isaac Guerendo to go up 7-0 with 8:37 left in the first quarter.

From there, it was the Trojans who took control.

USC scored 21 unanswered points thanks to three touchdowns from Moss, who found Washington on his first two scoring throws from 17- and 29-yard distances.

Washington ended the game with 99 receiving yards on seven catches. He’s already declared for the NFL Draft, and capped his career at USC on a high note.

USC led 28-14 at halftime and held Louisville to 361 total yards. Guerendo had 161 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

USC head coach Lincoln Riley announced on Monday that quarterback Caleb Williams will not play in the Holiday Bowl.

Williams, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner and widely projected No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, spent the past two seasons with the Trojans.

READ: Full list of Power 5 bowl games

The third-year quarterback followed Riley from Oklahoma to USC when the two moved prior to the 2022 season.

Across 26 games with the Trojans, Williams holds nine single-season program records, including total offense of 4,919 yards and most touchdowns scored rushing and passing with 52.

Williams followed his 52-touchdown sophomore campaign with a 41-touchdown junior season this fall. He threw for 30 touchdowns and ran for 11 more, a career high.

Williams has 3,633 passing yards and 30 touchdowns to five interceptions this season. He’s No. 7 in college football with a 170.15 passing efficiency rating.

Backup quarterbacks Miller Moss and Malachi Nelson are expected to play in Williams’ place when the Trojans play No. 15 Louisville in the Holiday Bowl on Dec. 27.
