Set to launch worldwide on July 19, a full reveal of the modes and features of EA Sports College Football 25 was announced on Friday.

Dynasty and Road To Glory modes will be available in College Football 25, according to a release. Those two modes will allow players “to construct their own powerhouse program as a created coach or vie for the Heisman as a player” in what the video game introduces as CampusIQ, which will be “a suite of features that brings to life the true depth of college football through wide open, fast-paced gameplay across all 134 FBS schools in all areas of the game.”

Over 10,000 players have opted into College Football 25, it was announced in March. Any student-athlete who opts in and has their name, image and likeness used will receive $600 and a copy of the video game.

College Football 25 will also offer “the all-new Road to the College Football Playoff and College Football Ultimate Team” that will “bring fresh online experiences and ways to play.”

“EA SPORTS College Football is BACK! We’ve felt the passion and anticipation of college football fans every step of the way since we first announced this game, and we’re ecstatic to finally be able to show everyone what we’ve been building,” EA Sports SVP and Group GM Daryl Holt stated in a release. “College Football 25 is built with authenticity at its core, inspired by experiences our fans have loved from our games, and fully evolved to reflect modern college football – all of which will immerse them in the sights, sounds, and true-to-life gameplay of the sport they love.”

EA Sports unveiled the cover of College Football 25 on Thursday, showcasing Michigan running back Donovan Edwards, Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers and Colorado defensive back/wide receiver Travis Hunter. They will star on the covers of the Standard and Deluxe editions.

“Donovan, Quinn and Travis are extraordinary talents who impressed and entertained millions of college football fans on the field last season and are poised to do so again this year,” Holt stated in a release. “We’re proud to be able to incorporate thousands of current athletes in College Football 25, and featuring this trio of playmakers and their iconic college programs on the cover is a perfect fit as we usher in a new era for EA SPORTS and college football. I can’t wait for the world to learn more about the game tomorrow.”

ESPN broadcasters such as Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit will “call marquee matchups,” along with other broadcast teams such as Rece Davis, Jesse Palmer and David Pollack will comprise the virtual booth and “take the mic for all other games.”

Among the gameplay features include Homefield Advantage, which will allow players to “through distractions like screen shaking, missing pre-play icons, and moving play art.” Additional features consist of Pre-Snap Recognition and the Wear & Tear System, which means virtual player stamina is affected by more play so it will be important to “manage your players’ health, limit fatigue, assess risk of injury, and avoid on-field mistakes by using strategic substitutions to ensure your players are at their best when it counts the most.”

The traditions within college football that make it one of a kind will be immersed in College Football 25. Along with team mascots and fight songs, the video game will include “unique team run-outs, rivalry rituals, synchronized crowd-chants, loudness meters as well as real game-day audio.”

Dynasty and Road To Glory modes are also offered in the video game alongside Road to the College Football Playoff, where players will “experience a new way to play competitively across consoles” and “earn rank by upsetting the toughest opponents and securing the votes you need to progress and level up divisions,” as well as College Football Ultimate Team.

College Football Ultimate Team will allow players to “build your dream team of college football stars and legends” in Solo Challenges or H2H seasons, and they can test their skill across consoles “in more competitive formats like College Football Ultimate Team Champs and Champs Gauntlet.”

EA Sports College Football 25 is available for pre-order now. According to Matt Brown of Extra Points, the video game will not be available for PC at launch. EA Sports is also offering an MVP bundle on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S that will include deluxe editions of College Football 25 and Madden NFL 25 “with 3-day early access and unlocks a multitude of benefits across both titles.”

College football players around the country shared on social media Thursday their participation in the upcoming EA Sports video game “College Football 25.”

EA Sports confirmed Thursday that all 134 Football Bowl Subdivision teams will be available to play in the new game.

More information about the game will be available in May, according to a release.

Players such as Michigan’s Will Johnson and Ohio State transfer Quinshon Judkins posted on X a graphic designed in their team’s colors promoting the video game.

ESPN broadcasters such as Rece Davis and Kirk Herbstreit shared posts confirming they’ll also appear as “one of the voices” of the game. Herbstreit posted “I’m so excited to FINALLY announce that I’m part of @EASPORTSCollege. I’m proud to be a partner and one of the voices of the game once again – my 14th year in that role.”

According to Michael Rothstein of ESPN, any player who opts in and has their name, image and likeness used in the game will receive at least $600 and a copy of “College Football 25.”

Additional opportunities such as advertisements, promotion, social media posts and other avenues will be available for players to have a chance to make more, according to ESPN.

No Football Championship Subdivision school will be available to play when the game launches, according to ESPN.

If a player doesn’t opt into the “College Football 25” video game, then “a generic avatar based on the traditional strength or weakness of a position over the past decade for that school” will be created by EA Sports, according to ESPN.

According to Ryan Kryska of The Associated Press, users who could create and add players of real-life college football players who did not opt into the “College Football 25” video game will be blocked from doing so.

Friday got the ball rolling early. No. 10 Utah suffered its first loss of the season when No. 19 Oregon State dialed up a 21-7 victory at home off the efforts quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, who finished with 204 passing yards and a touchdown and interception, and receiver Silas Bolden, who totaled 100 yards. 

Here are some of the top statistical performances from Week 5. 

Jonathon Brooks, Texas 

Texas relies heavily on quarterback Quinn Ewers. The Longhorns are fourth in the Big 12 Conference averaging almost 287 passing yards per game. 

Brooks brought balance to the Longhorns this week. Texas had more than 325 yards both passing and rushing during its 40-14 win over Kansas. 

Brooks had over 200 of those yards by himself. He ran for 217 rushing yards across 20 carries, topping his previous career-high by 53 yards.

Brooks broke off his first big run in the second quarter on a 67-yard dash setting up first down at the Jayhawks 8-yard line. 

He added runs of 54, 12 and 11 yards, and Brooks converted seven first downs when he had the football. 

Ray Davis, Kentucky 

This week’s leading rusher had a big game during the Wildcats upset win over Florida. 

Davis found “another gear” in his 280-yard rushing performance. He garnered 26 carries which set a season-high. 

Davis got his day started with 206 rushing yards in the first half against the Gators. He had three touchdowns in that span, and his first came through the air on a 9-yard reception during the first quarter. 

Davis’ rushing touchdowns came later, as he piled on a 75-yard breakaway for a score late in the first quarter and added another on the next possession during the second quarter. 

He would finish with three rushing touchdowns on the day. Davis’ 280 rushing yards tied him for third-most in a single game in Kentucky program history. 

Omarion Miller, Colorado 

It took a half of football for Miller to turn on, but when he did, he did so decisively. 

Miller caught a 65-yard deep ball thrown by quarterback Shedeur Sanders midway through the third quarter.

As Colorado’s comeback bid began — the Buffaloes trailed as much as 41-14 in the second half — that was when Miller continued piling on big catches. 

He converted a first down on a 44-yard catch in the third quarter, and it set up a Sanders touchdown pass on the next play to pull the Buffaloes within 48-27. 

Miller caught a touchdown of his own after the fourth quarter began. He found an opportunity and took advantage on a 9-yard score that was part of Colorado’s stretch of 20 unanswered points. 

Miller finished with 196 receiving yards across seven catches, all coming in the second half of Colorado’s narrow 48-41 defeat to No. 9 USC. 

Jalen Royals, Utah State 

UConn’s comeback efforts also fell short to Utah State and Royals, who had a career-day in the 34-33 win. 

Royals caught the go-ahead touchdown on a 52-yard reception early in the fourth quarter on Saturday. Utah State then held a 31-24 lead that would have to withstand the test of time. 

And it did. Utah State blocked the game-tying extra point with 40 seconds left to seal its second win of the year. 

Royals caught a game-high 185 yards, which set a new career best, across seven receptions. He also had touchdowns of 71 and 15 yards. 

Taulia Tagovailoa, Maryland 

A renowned quarterback who’s older brother currently quarterbacks the Miami Dolphins, Taulia Tagovailoa had a statement performance on Saturday against Indiana. 

Tagovailoa, the program’s career passing leader, went 24-of-34 for 352 passing yards, a season-high figure.

Tagovailoa and Maryland converted 13 first downs through the air, and they went a perfect 5-for-5 in the red zone. He added scoring throws of 9 and 3 yards. 

His farther passes went downfield for big payouts. Tagovailoa had six “big plays” of more than 15 passing yards: 62, 46, 31, 29, 23 and 19. 

Tagovailoa also finished with five touchdowns, which reached a new career-high for the fifth-year quarterback. He and the Terrapins have a major test this weekend when they travel to Columbus and face No. 4 Ohio State.

Sabau will bring important experience to Utah State as she oversaw the administration of all 28 of the Big Ten’s sponsored sports, according to a release. She was the chief sports officer at the Big Ten, and Sabau provided departmental oversight to the conference’s sports of football, basketball, hockey, Olympic sports and officiating among others. 

“I am energized to serve our Aggie student-athletes, coaches, staff, university, alumni, donors and the Logan community,” Sabau stated in a release. “We will compete for championships with integrity and we will build on the current momentum of Utah State Athletics.” 

Sabau previously served as senior deputy athletics director at Ohio State. She spent four years as the Buckeyes’ sport administrator on the gridiron as well as conducting a national search for a women’s ice hockey head coach, naming Nadine Muzerall to the post who later guided Ohio State to its first national championship in 2021. 

Sabau was named Big Ten deputy commissioner and chief sports office in March 2021, the first to do so in the position. 

Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti stated that he and the conference wish Sabau congratulations on her new position at Utah State. 

“Diana is a team player who has built strong relationships both internally and externally throughout her career,” Petitti stated in a release. “She places the student-athlete experience at the center of everything she does, which is one of the many reasons she was able to immediately impact the success of multiple Big Ten championships and events.” 

Sabau will start in her new position at Utah State on Aug. 21, according to a release.

One of those directions could be to join and collaborate with the Mountain West Conference, according to Ross Dellenger of Yahoo! Sports. Dellenger reported that the Mountain West “is receptive” to working with the Pac-12 to determine best courses of action. 

An obstacle that could hinder the ability for the Pac-12 to possibly merge with the Mountain West is the exit fee per school in the latter conference. Dellenger reported that for a Mountain West program to leave in time for 2024 then the exit fee is about $34 million. 

The Mountain West currently has 12 programs in its conference. On the other hand, as the dust settled on a historic past week surrounding conference expansion, the Pac-12 is left with four schools: Cal, Oregon State, Stanford and Washington State. 

If the Pac-12 and Mountain West are able to work something out to continue the legacies of each respective conference, potential matchups could pit Utah State against Oregon State or Air Force against Stanford. 

According to Brian McInnis of Spectrum News Hawaii, Hawaii football head coach Timmy Chang said he thinks the Mountain West is the best Group of 5 conference and that “however this thing shakes out, I feel comfortable about where we are as a conference and group.”
