They will star on the covers of the Standard and Deluxe editions.

“Donovan, Quinn and Travis are extraordinary talents who impressed and entertained millions of college football fans on the field last season and are poised to do so again this year,” Holt stated in a release. “We’re proud to be able to incorporate thousands of current athletes in College Football 25, and featuring this trio of playmakers and their iconic college programs on the cover is a perfect fit as we usher in a new era for EA SPORTS and college football.
ESPN broadcasters such as Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit will “call marquee matchups,” along with other broadcast teams such as Rece Davis, Jesse Palmer and David Pollack will comprise the virtual booth and “take the mic for all other games.”

The traditions within college football that make it one of a kind will be immersed in College Football 25. Along with team mascots and fight songs, the video game will include “unique team run-outs, rivalry rituals, synchronized crowd-chants, loudness meters as well as real game-day audio.”

Dynasty and Road To Glory modes are also offered in the video game alongside Road to the College Football Playoff, where players will “experience a new way to play competitively across consoles” and “earn rank by upsetting the toughest opponents and securing the votes you need to progress and level up divisions,” as well as College Football Ultimate Team.

College Football Ultimate Team will allow players to “build your dream team of college football stars and legends” in Solo Challenges or H2H seasons, and they can test their skill across consoles “in more competitive formats like College Football Ultimate Team Champs and Champs Gauntlet.”

Like the previous two, offensive players began the third day of the NFL Draft with Texas tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders going No. 101 overall to the Carolina Panthers and Troy Franklin reuniting with Oregon quarterback Bo Nix at No. 102 overall to the Denver Broncos.

Spencer Rattler, Jordan Travis become first QBs taken since Round 1

More than 100 picks went between the six taken in the first round on Thursday, which already set a record for most quarterbacks taken in the opening round of the draft.

Former South Carolina and Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler broke the streak in round four when he went No. 150 overall to the New Orleans Saints.

Rattler leaves South Carolina as the all-time leader in completion percentage with 67.5% completion.

Former Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis was chosen No. 171 overall in the fifth round by the New York Jets. He later would be paired with wide receiver teammate Johnny Wilson when the Jets picked him in the sixth round.

Travis finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting last season despite suffering a season-ending broken leg in the second-to-last regular season game.

Alabama’s Jaylen Key is Mr. Irrelevant

Every year, the final pick of the draft is regarded as “Mr. Irrelevant.” It’s so widely recognized as a special selection that “Irrelevant Week” is an annual celebration that honors that last player picked in the draft recognized by the NFL, according to MrIrrelevant.org.

Alabama defensive back Jaylen Key is this draft’s “Mr. Irrelevant” as he was chosen No. 257 overall in the seventh round by the New York Jets.

Key played last season with the Crimson Tide after spending the previous four years with Alabama at Birmingham. He started 12 games at Alabama and made 60 tackles, one pass break-up and an interception.

Key earned an honorable mention nod in 2022 with the All-Conference USA team. He had three interceptions for the Blazers that season, tying for the team lead.

The American Athletic Conference announced Wednesday that Tim Pernetti will be its new commissioner.

Pernetti is the second commissioner in the history of the AAC. He’ll succeed Mike Aresco, who retired in December 2023.

“It is truly an honor to be selected by the Chancellors and Presidents of the American Athletic Conference to serve as their commissioner at this important time in collegiate athletics that demands innovative leadership and consensus-driven change,” Pernetti stated in a release. “I am fired-up to work alongside our board, conference staff, athletics directors and coaches as we continue to transform the AAC into a bold collegiate conference enterprise that promotes world-class academic and athletic opportunities for our student-athletes through innovative resources, brand partnerships and emerging opportunities. I am ready to roll up my sleeves and, alongside our conference community, get to work.”

Pernetti will be his tenure in June, according to a release.

Among the places he’s worked include serving “as president of IMG Academy, executive vice president of the global sports and entertainment company, Endeavor, president of IMG College and executive vice president, content, CBS College Sports.”

Pernetti “oversaw a $100M capital expansion of IMG Academy” and “was part of the executive team that sold IMG Academy for $1.25B to EQT in 2023,” according to a release.

”Tim Pernetti is the ideal leader to guide the American Athletic Conference through this pivotal time in college athletics,” Chancellor of East Carolina University Philp Rogers stated in a release. “His perspective as a successful student-athlete, a respected and progressive director of athletics, and his demonstrated leadership, innovation, competitive spirit, and business acumen across a number of professional organizations make him uniquely suited to build on the success of Mike Aresco and steer the conference to a bright future.”

Pernetti also has experience as the director of intercollegiate athletics at Rutgers from 2009-13. He’s a Scarlet Knights alum who played on the football team.

At CBS College Sports from 2006-09, Pernetti was executive vice president, content, and senior vice president, programming and talent, for CSTV from 2003-06, according to a release.

He has also been involved in Major League Soccer. Pernetti was chief business officer for the New York City Football Club which launched in 2015.

Pernetti also spent five years at Endeavor “where he oversaw North American business development and growth management in sports, music, events, arts and exhibitions.”

“I have known Tim for a long time, and he is a superb choice to lead this conference,” Aresco stated in a release. “He has all the qualities and skills to advance the goals of the conference and take it to greater heights. I applaud the search committee, led by Philip Rogers, for its thoroughness and ability to deliver an outstanding new commissioner. I could not be more pleased for Tim and for the conference and look forward to making the transition as seamless as possible.”

NCAA President Charlie Baker is speaking out about prop betting and college sports, and he wants to see a change within sports gambling.

Baker released a statement Wednesday calling for sportsbooks to discontinue prop bets within college contests. He stated “the NCAA is drawing the line on sports betting to protect student-athletes and to protect the integrity of the game.”

READ: Washington names Washington State’s Pat Chun new AD

“Sports betting issues are on the rise across the country with prop bets continuing to threaten the integrity of competition and leading to student-athletes and professional athletes getting harassed,” Baker stated. “The NCAA has been working with states to deal with these threats and many are responding by banning college prop bets. This week we will be contacting officials across the country in states that still allow these bets and ask them to join Ohio, Vermont, Maryland and many others and remove college prop bets from all betting markets. The NCAA is drawing the line on sports betting to protect student-athletes and to protect the integrity of the game – issues across the country these last several days show there is more work to be done.”

With sports betting on the rise, the NCAA is acting to protect student-athletes from harassment and working to protect the integrity of the game – this week shows why it’s so important to act. pic.twitter.com/krATwpS4hZ
— NCAA News (@NCAA_PR) March 27, 2024

Baker is the latest leader to put in question prop bets, which some states already disallow including Maryland and Ohio.

Irregular betting patterns have become a popular topic in recent years as mor states legalize sports gambling. Prop bets are unique because bettors gamble on outcomes unrelated to the final score.

According to Ralph D. Russo of The Associated Press, there are 38 states that allow some form of sports betting.

The NCAA also “has partnered with a data science company called Signify, which also works with the NBA Players Association and WNBA, to identify online threats made to athletes during championship events that are linked to wagering,” according to the AP.

Here are where some states stand on sports gambling, according to the AP:

Arizona, Colorado, Massachusetts, New York, Oregon and Pennsylvania “have rules prohibiting prop betting on college athletes that predate the NCAA’s recent push.”

Connecticut, Illinois and Iowa “do not allow college athlete prop bets involving in-state teams.”

READ: Cincinnati hires Brad Wittke as chief of staff

Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan and Wyoming “allow bettors to place prop bets on college athletes regardless of where they play.”

Ohio, Maryland and Vermont “have removed prop betting on college athletes online and in sportsbooks.”

Baker figures to lead an important effort to remove prop betting on college competition from sportsbooks. There have been instances around the NCAA, such as when a Temple men’s basketball regular season game was flagged by U.S. Integrity “for wagering irregularities,” according to the AP.

American Athletic Conference commissioner Mike Aresco announced Thursday that he is retiring at the end of the 2023-24 academic year.

Aresco has served as the first and only president of the AAC in the conference’s 11-year history.

“It has been the supreme privilege of my long career in sports to have had the opportunity to lead this great conference from its reinvention in 2013, and to represent its outstanding student-athletes, coaches and administrators,” Aresco stated in a release. “I am grateful to the Board of Directors for giving me this opportunity to serve. It would take many pages to list this conference’s numerous athletic and academic accomplishments. There have also been some disappointments and difficulties along the way, most notably, the P5-G5 divide, realignment, College Football Playoff access for our deserving teams, and some competitive heartbreak in big games. But these have not affected in any way my enthusiasm in leading this terrific and resilient conference or my optimism for its long-term future. I would like to thank everyone associated with this conference for their significant contributions, and also my friends and colleagues in the college community, for their goodwill and concern for the greater good of the collegiate enterprise.”

READ: Big Board: Post-conference championship week

Aresco oversaw the reformation of the Big East Conference into the AAC in the early 2010s. He also helped the AAC secure two media rights agreements, one in 2014 and another in 2019, that serve as milestone moments for the conference.

Aresco also served on a number of College Football Playoff committees focusing on strategic planning, television, site selection and most recently a committee to select the next CFP executive director.

Aresco has overseen the recent rounds of conference realignment which impacted the moves for UCF, Cincinnati and Houston to the Big 12 Conference and Southern Methodist to the Atlantic Coast Conference.

“Mike Aresco has been a strong, steady, and innovative commissioner for the American Athletic Conference since its inception,” East Carolina University Chancellor and Chair of The American’s Board of Directors Philip Rogers stated in a release. “We are all grateful for his distinguished service to the conference. There is no question that he will leave the AAC well-positioned for future success due to his strategic approach to navigating the complex landscape of intercollegiate athletics. More importantly, though, he led with deep character and integrity and we will miss him dearly in this role. My colleagues and I wish Mike and his family the very best in this new phase of life.”

There are 13 unbeaten teams remaining in college football.

More than a half dozen programs that entered Saturday with unblemished records suffered their first losses of the season, including then-No. 3 Texas and then-No. 10 Notre Dame.

PODCAST: Kirby Smart is Right for Not Caring

Because of the upset losses, No. 5 Oklahoma jumped seven spots in the latest Associated Press Top 25 Poll after defeating the Longhorns 34-30 in the Red River Rivalry.

The Fighting Irish suffered their second loss of the season to No. 14 Louisville. The Cardinals outgained Notre Dame 330 yards to 298 on their way to a seventh-straight win.

Here are some of the top statistical performances from Week 6.

Jermaine Burton, Alabama

Burton more than doubled his season output in just one game against Texas A&M on Saturday.

As the Crimson Tide rolled to a 26-20 win over the Aggies, Burton lit up the stat sheet on the receiving end of things. He finished with 197 receiving yards across nine catches including two touchdowns.

Burton and Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe connected twice in the third quarter for a pair of touchdowns. Both catches came within 20 yards, as Burton caught a 15-yarder and a 19-yard score in the third frame.

Burton’s first catch of the game went for big yardage as he hauled in a 45-yard reception midway through the first quarter.

His longest catch of the outing was a 46-yarder in the third quarter.

Burton’s 197 receiving yards tied his career high, as did his two receiving touchdowns.

Dequan Finn, Toledo

The first of three quarterbacks in this week’s Stat Pack dominated the game on the ground and through the air.

PODCAST: Talking winners, top teams and much more after week six

Finn, a notable dual-threat quarterback from the Rockets, ran for 197 yards in the game against UMass.

It set Toledo’s single-game record for rushing yards by a quarterback.

That wasn’t all for Finn in his historic day, as his rushing totals helped him break the program record for career rushing yards by a quarterback with 1,690. He also added a rushing touchdown.

Through the air, Finn tossed a pair of touchdowns. He fired strikes of 20 and 8 yards both to receiver Jerjuan Newton.

Finn finished with 139 passing yards across a 65% completion.

Drake Maye, North Carolina

Entering the season among the Heisman Trophy favorites and a projected top NFL Draft pick, Maye had one of his best performances of the season on Saturday.

The junior North Carolina quarterback accounted for four touchdowns including three passing.

Maye delivered a pair of touchdown passes in the second quarter, finding receivers Bryson Nesbit and John Copenhaver on throws of 23 and 1 yards, respectively.

Maye’s big day through the air saw him top 400 passing yards for the third time in his career. He tallied 442 yards across 70% completion, finishing six yards shy of his career high.

E.J. Warner, Temple

Warner is the only member of this week’s Stat Pack to suffer a loss to his opponent, and he did all he could to help the Owls keep up with UTSA.

Warner passed for 472 yards and five touchdowns, the third time in his career that he’s topped 470 passing yards. His five scoring throws also ties his career best.

Warner’s third game of more than 400 passing yards breaks the career record at Temple.

Falling 49-34 to the Roadrunners, Warner also set the program record for passing attempts in a single game with 65. He finished with 65% completion.

Warner had touchdown throws of 33, 31, 13, 7 and 2 yards.
