With Big 12 media day Tuesday and Wednesday, Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt and Texas Tech linebacker Jacob Rodriguez were honored with preseason awards by the conference on Monday.

Leavitt — a redshirt sophomore — was named the Big 12 2025 preseason Offensive Player of the Year, while Rodriguez — a senior — was dubbed the conference’s preseason Defensive Player of the Year.

Leavitt transferred to Arizona State after redshirting in his freshman season at Michigan State. In his first full season with the Sun Devils, Leavitt led Arizona State to a Big 12 title in the program’s first season in the conference.

Leavitt finished his first season in Tempe, Arizona, as the school’s new record holder for most total yards by a freshman with 3,328. He threw for 2,885 yards, 24 touchdowns and six interceptions in 13 games.

Jacob Rodriguez, on the other hand, led Texas Tech’s defense in 2024 with a team-high 127 total tackles, five sacks and 10.5 tackles for a loss. At season’s end, Rodriguez was named to the All-Big 12 first team by conference coaches and the Associated Press.

After losing an overtime heartbreaker to Texas in the first round of the College Football Playoff last year, Leavitt seeks to lead Arizona State to the playoffs for a second consecutive season.

Meanwhile, Rodriguez serves as a vital piece of consistent leadership on the Red Raiders, who are bringing in the No. 2 transfer portal class in the country.

In addition to Leavitt and Rodriguez, Utah junior quarterback Devon Dampier was chosen as the Big 12’s preseason Newcomer of the Year.

Five-star offensive line prospect Felix Ojo put on a Texas Longhorns hat on Friday as the crowd in attendance screamed in excitement.

But Ojo took the hat off and tried to calm the crowd down.

Twenty seconds later, he made a historic announcement while picking up a hat from underneath the table.

Ojo, the No. 5 prospect in the 2026 recruiting class, committed to Texas Tech over Ohio State, Texas, Florida and Michigan and will receive a blockbuster fully guaranteed revenue-sharing contract with the Red Raiders, a three-year, $5.1 million deal, according to multiple reports.

“A new ERA of CFB is coming either jump on the train or get left behind,” Felix Ojo told Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett.

Ojo’s contract is higher than fellow offensive lineman Jackson Cantwell’s deal with Miami and is one of the richest revenue-sharing deals under the federal settlement, which was approved June 6, which allows programs to directly pay their athletes.

Ojo’s pledge also makes history for Texas Tech as he’s now the highest-rated recruit the program has ever landed. At 6-foot-7, 285 pounds, Ojo is the No. 4 offensive tackle and second-best recruit from Texas in the class with legitimate potential to play on Sundays for a long time.

Ojo was a multi-year starter at Lake Ridge High School in Mansfield, Texas, and will head roughly 350 miles west to Lubbock, Texas.

For the Red Raiders — who are looking to contend in the Big 12 this season —they’ve significantly improved their roster this offseason after an 8-5 record in 2024. Texas Tech has the No. 2 transfer portal class in the country, only behind the LSU Tigers.

Set to launch worldwide on July 19, a full reveal of the modes and features of EA Sports College Football 25 was announced on Friday.

Dynasty and Road To Glory modes will be available in College Football 25, according to a release. Those two modes will allow players “to construct their own powerhouse program as a created coach or vie for the Heisman as a player” in what the video game introduces as CampusIQ, which will be “a suite of features that brings to life the true depth of college football through wide open, fast-paced gameplay across all 134 FBS schools in all areas of the game.”

Over 10,000 players have opted into College Football 25, it was announced in March. Any student-athlete who opts in and has their name, image and likeness used will receive $600 and a copy of the video game.

College Football 25 will also offer “the all-new Road to the College Football Playoff and College Football Ultimate Team” that will “bring fresh online experiences and ways to play.”

We’ve felt the passion and anticipation of college football fans every step of the way since we first announced this game, and we’re ecstatic to finally be able to show everyone what we’ve been building,” EA Sports SVP and Group GM Daryl Holt stated in a release. “College Football 25 is built with authenticity at its core, inspired by experiences our fans have loved from our games, and fully evolved to reflect modern college football – all of which will immerse them in the sights, sounds, and true-to-life gameplay of the sport they love.”

EA Sports unveiled the cover of College Football 25 on Thursday, showcasing Michigan running back Donovan Edwards, Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers and Colorado defensive back/wide receiver Travis Hunter. They will star on the covers of the Standard and Deluxe editions.

“Donovan, Quinn and Travis are extraordinary talents who impressed and entertained millions of college football fans on the field last season and are poised to do so again this year,” Holt stated in a release. “We’re proud to be able to incorporate thousands of current athletes in College Football 25, and featuring this trio of playmakers and their iconic college programs on the cover is a perfect fit as we usher in a new era for EA SPORTS and college football. I can’t wait for the world to learn more about the game tomorrow.”

ESPN broadcasters such as Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit will “call marquee matchups,” along with other broadcast teams such as Rece Davis, Jesse Palmer and David Pollack will comprise the virtual booth and “take the mic for all other games.”

Among the gameplay features include Homefield Advantage, which will allow players to “through distractions like screen shaking, missing pre-play icons, and moving play art.” Additional features consist of Pre-Snap Recognition and the Wear & Tear System, which means virtual player stamina is affected by more play so it will be important to “manage your players’ health, limit fatigue, assess risk of injury, and avoid on-field mistakes by using strategic substitutions to ensure your players are at their best when it counts the most.”

The traditions within college football that make it one of a kind will be immersed in College Football 25. Along with team mascots and fight songs, the video game will include “unique team run-outs, rivalry rituals, synchronized crowd-chants, loudness meters as well as real game-day audio.”

Dynasty and Road To Glory modes are also offered in the video game alongside Road to the College Football Playoff, where players will “experience a new way to play competitively across consoles” and “earn rank by upsetting the toughest opponents and securing the votes you need to progress and level up divisions,” as well as College Football Ultimate Team.

College Football Ultimate Team will allow players to “build your dream team of college football stars and legends” in Solo Challenges or H2H seasons, and they can test their skill across consoles “in more competitive formats like College Football Ultimate Team Champs and Champs Gauntlet.”

EA Sports College Football 25 is available for pre-order now. According to Matt Brown of Extra Points, the video game will not be available for PC at launch. EA Sports is also offering an MVP bundle on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S that will include deluxe editions of College Football 25 and Madden NFL 25 “with 3-day early access and unlocks a multitude of benefits across both titles.”

Like the previous two, offensive players began the third day of the NFL Draft with Texas tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders going No. 101 overall to the Carolina Panthers and Troy Franklin reuniting with Oregon quarterback Bo Nix at No. 102 overall to the Denver Broncos.

Spencer Rattler, Jordan Travis become first QBs taken since Round 1

More than 100 picks went between the six taken in the first round on Thursday, which already set a record for most quarterbacks taken in the opening round of the draft.

Former South Carolina and Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler broke the streak in round four when he went No. 150 overall to the New Orleans Saints. 

Rattler leaves South Carolina as the all-time leader in completion percentage with 67.5% completion.

Former Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis was chosen No. 171 overall in the fifth round by the New York Jets. He later would be paired with wide receiver teammate Johnny Wilson when the Jets picked him in the sixth round.

Travis finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting last season despite suffering a season-ending broken leg in the second-to-last regular season game.

Alabama’s Jaylen Key is Mr. Irrelevant

Every year, the final pick of the draft is regarded as “Mr. Irrelevant.” It’s so widely recognized as a special selection that “Irrelevant Week” is an annual celebration that honors that last player picked in the draft recognized by the NFL, according to MrIrrelevant.org.

Alabama defensive back Jaylen Key is this draft’s “Mr. Irrelevant” as he was chosen No. 257 overall in the seventh round by the New York Jets.

Key played last season with the Crimson Tide after spending the previous four years with Alabama at Birmingham. He started 12 games at Alabama and made 60 tackles, one pass break-up and an interception.

Key earned an honorable mention nod in 2022 with the All-Conference USA team. He had three interceptions for the Blazers that season, tying for the team lead.

College football players around the country shared on social media Thursday their participation in the upcoming EA Sports video game “College Football 25.”

EA Sports confirmed Thursday that all 134 Football Bowl Subdivision teams will be available to play in the new game.

More information about the game will be available in May, according to a release.

Players such as Michigan’s Will Johnson and Ohio State transfer Quinshon Judkins posted on X a graphic designed in their team’s colors promoting the video game.

ESPN broadcasters such as Rece Davis and Kirk Herbstreit shared posts confirming they’ll also appear as “one of the voices” of the game. Herbstreit posted “I’m so excited to FINALLY announce that I’m part of @EASPORTSCollege. I’m proud to be a partner and one of the voices of the game once again – my 14th year in that role.”

Additional opportunities such as advertisements, promotion, social media posts and other avenues will be available for players to have a chance to make more, according to ESPN.

No Football Championship Subdivision school will be available to play when the game launches, according to ESPN.

If a player doesn’t opt into the “College Football 25” video game, then “a generic avatar based on the traditional strength or weakness of a position over the past decade for that school” will be created by EA Sports, according to ESPN.

According to Ryan Kryska of The Associated Press, users who could create and add players of real-life college football players who did not opt into the “College Football 25” video game will be blocked from doing so.

The NFL announced Tuesday that 321 players were invited to the Combine taking place Feb. 26-March 4.

Seventy-nine teams will be represented at the Combine this year.

Michigan had a Combine-record 18 players invited this year. Among the Wolverines who were invited include quarterback J.J. McCarthy, running back Blake Corum and defensive lineman Kris Jenkins.

Heisman Trophy-winning LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels will be among the gunslingers taking part in drills. Fellow Heisman finalists Marvin Harrison Jr., Bo Nix and Michael Penix Jr. will also be in attendance at the Combine, as well as 2022 Heisman winner Caleb Williams.

Foster will succeed Chip Kelly, who was hired to be Ohio State’s offensive coordinator on Friday night.

Foster, a 2022 Broyles Award nominee, has over a decade of college coaching experience.

“This is a dream come true,” Foster stated in a release. “I always envisioned being a Bruin ever since I was young, and now being the head coach at my alma mater is such a surreal feeling, and I’m grateful for this opportunity. The foundation of this program will be built on discipline, respect and enthusiasm. These are phenomenal young men, and I’m excited to hit the ground running.”

Foster played four seasons at UCLA from 1998-2001 earning All-American honors in 2001 after leading the then-Pac-10 Conference with 138.6 rushing yards per game. He finished his Bruins career second with 44 touchdowns score and third with 3,194 rushing yards.

Foster started his coaching career as a student assistant at UCLA from 2012-13 before becoming a graduate assistant in 2014.

He spent one more year at UCLA as Director of Player Development and High School Relations in 2015, then became running backs coach at Texas Tech.

After the 2016 season with the Red Raiders, Foster returned to UCLA as running backs coach serving in the role from 2017-22. He earned a promotion to associate head coach prior to the 2023 season.

Foster was inducted into the UCLA Athletic Hal of Fame in 2022.

”While undergoing a comprehensive search for our new head coach, DeShaun resonated from the start and throughout the whole process,” UCLA athletics director Martin Jarmond stated in a release. “We are looking for a coach with integrity, energy and passion; someone who is a great teacher, who develops young men, is a great recruiter and fully embraces the NIL landscape to help our student-athletes. DeShaun checks all of those boxes and then some. He is a leader of men and a true Bruin. I am excited to partner with him as we usher UCLA Football into an exciting new era.”

The College Football Playoff Selection Committee released its final rankings of the season on Sunday, and they delivered a Playoff feature No. 1 Michigan battling No. 4 Alabama in the Rose Bowl and No. 2 Washington taking on No. 3 Texas in the Sugar Bowl.

As non-Playoff teams were selected into other bowl games, matchups began to take shape all across the Power 5 conferences. 

Each of the Atlantic Coast Conference, Big 12, Big Ten, Pac-12 and Southeastern conferences will take part in bowl season. The ACC leads the way with 11 bowl games. 

The Big 12 is close behind at 10 bowl games, while the Big Ten has nine and the Pac-12 and SEC both have eight.

Washington rose to No. 4 in Tuesday’s rankings, its highest of the season. The Huskies defeated then-No. 11 Oregon State 22-20 and quarterback Michael Penix Jr. threw two more touchdowns to total 30 on the year. 

PODCAST: Despite chalk at the top, week 12 had intrigue

No. 5 Florida State dropped a place in the rankings, and the loss of quarterback Jordan Travis looms large. 

Here are several players and notes to keep a tab on in this week’s Big Board. 

It’s rivalry week 

The final week of the regular season is here. 

Matchups such as “The Game” between No. 2 Ohio State and No. 3 Michigan, the in-state rivalry between No. 13 Ole Miss and Mississippi State, and the Iron Bowl between No. 8 Alabama and Auburn are among the notable bouts this week. 

What’s on the line this week? 

Well, a spot in the Big Ten Championship game is on the line in Ann Arbor. No. 6 Oregon has virtually locked up a spot in the Pac-12 title game, awaiting a potential rematch with No. 4 Washington, while the Ducks will play No. 16 Oregon State. 

No. 7 Texas can clinch a Big 12 Championship game berth with a win over Texas Tech on Friday, and the Longhorns will need to watch multiple games in order to find out their potential opponent. 

No. 13 Oklahoma will host TCU, and No. 20 Oklahoma State will play BYU. The Cowboys have an advantage over the Sooners due to their head-to-head matchup that saw Oklahoma fall 27-24. 

So while the CFP picture is mostly clear, and becoming clearer each week, the conference championship scene still has some things yet to unfold.

Jayden Daniels, LSU and Bo Nix, Oregon 

Fourteen touchdowns, two players. 

That’s what LSU’s Jayden Daniels and Oregon’s Bo Nix combined to do last weekend in their respective matchups.

Daniels tied Joe Burrow for the LSU program record accounting for eight touchdowns in one game. He threw for six and rushed for two as the Tigers defeated Georgia State 56-14. 

Nix, on the other hand, had a six-touchdown performance for the second time in three games. He tied the Ducks’ single-game record in passing touchdowns, and Nix received Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week for a conference-record seventh time. 

So where do these two quarterbacks sit in the Heisman Trophy odds? 

According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Daniels has –110 odds to win the Heisman and Nix has +125 odds, which are second-best. 

These are two of the frontrunners for the Heisman Trophy. Both are on teams with slightly different seasonal paths as Oregon stands No. 6 in the country while LSU is No. 15. 

Both Daniels and Nix could receive invitations to the Heisman Trophy Ceremony in New York City on Dec. 9. LSU will face Texas A&M on Saturday and the Ducks will play No. 11 Oregon State during rivalry week, and both quarterbacks will have a chance to lock up Heisman moments to compete for the sport’s most prestigious individual trophy. 

How will Travis’ injury affect No. 5 Florida State’s season? 

Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis suffered a horrific left leg injury last Saturday against North Alabama. 

He announced on Monday that the injury will end his college career, and the sixth-year quarterback will finish with 69 total touchdowns as a Seminole. 

The question next becomes whether or not Florida State can continue to play the way it has this season down the stretch and into the College Football Playoff, which it could reach for the first time since 2014. 

The CFP Selection Committee does factor in player availability into its rankings, and this week saw the committee drop the Seminoles to No. 5. Backup quarterback Tate Rodemaker did throw two touchdowns and for over 200 yards in his appearance after Travis’ injury.

Florida State already has a spot in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game coming up against No. 10 Louisville on Dec. 2. 

If the Seminoles can continue their winning ways and win out the rest of the season, perhaps they’ll return to the CFP top-four and get back to the Playoff for the first time since 2014.

The Red Raiders had shut out Kansas through the first three quarters. After putting up 140 yards of offense through that span, the Jayhawks came alive in the final frame. 

PODCAST: November crowns champions and who will step up in week 11?

Kansas amassed 204 yards of offense in the fourth quarter and roared back from a 13-0 deficit. Jayhawks running back Devin Neal broke open Kansas’ scoring with a 60-yard dash to score and make it 13-7. 

Kansas made a crucial third and 7 stop to regain possession, and after an 11-play, 71-yard drive Jayhawks kicker Seth Keller hit a 24-yard field goal with 4:42 left to play. 

After another scoreless possession for Texas Tech resulting in a punt, the Jayhawks converted four first downs including a key 17-yard reception by receiver Quentin Skinner on third and 2. 

The Jayhawks marched to Texas Tech’s 3-yard line, and Keller made another field goal from 22 yards out to tie the game at 13 apiece with 25 seconds left. 

Texas Tech only needed three plays to set itself up in field goal position after quarterback Behren Morton connected on passes of 16, 14 and 33 yards to move to the Jayhawks 12-yard line. 

Garcia kicked in the game-winning field goal, and the win sealed Texas Tech’s second-straight victory. 

Kansas outgained Texas Tech 344 yards to 312. Jayhawks quarterback Jason Bean saw limited action and went 1-of-4 while Cole Ballard went 9-of-20 for 124 yards.

Neal finished with 137 rushing yards. 

Morton had a 76% completion with 176 yards and an interception. Running back Tahj Brooks had 133 rushing yards and a touchdown.
