Set to launch worldwide on July 19, a full reveal of the modes and features of EA Sports College Football 25 was announced on Friday.

Dynasty and Road To Glory modes will be available in College Football 25, according to a release. Those two modes will allow players “to construct their own powerhouse program as a created coach or vie for the Heisman as a player” in what the video game introduces as CampusIQ, which will be “a suite of features that brings to life the true depth of college football through wide open, fast-paced gameplay across all 134 FBS schools in all areas of the game.”

Over 10,000 players have opted into College Football 25, it was announced in March. Any student-athlete who opts in and has their name, image and likeness used will receive $600 and a copy of the video game.

College Football 25 will also offer “the all-new Road to the College Football Playoff and College Football Ultimate Team” that will “bring fresh online experiences and ways to play.”

“EA SPORTS College Football is BACK! We’ve felt the passion and anticipation of college football fans every step of the way since we first announced this game, and we’re ecstatic to finally be able to show everyone what we’ve been building,” EA Sports SVP and Group GM Daryl Holt stated in a release. “College Football 25 is built with authenticity at its core, inspired by experiences our fans have loved from our games, and fully evolved to reflect modern college football – all of which will immerse them in the sights, sounds, and true-to-life gameplay of the sport they love.”

EA Sports unveiled the cover of College Football 25 on Thursday, showcasing Michigan running back Donovan Edwards, Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers and Colorado defensive back/wide receiver Travis Hunter. They will star on the covers of the Standard and Deluxe editions.

“Donovan, Quinn and Travis are extraordinary talents who impressed and entertained millions of college football fans on the field last season and are poised to do so again this year,” Holt stated in a release. “We’re proud to be able to incorporate thousands of current athletes in College Football 25, and featuring this trio of playmakers and their iconic college programs on the cover is a perfect fit as we usher in a new era for EA SPORTS and college football. I can’t wait for the world to learn more about the game tomorrow.”

ESPN broadcasters such as Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit will “call marquee matchups,” along with other broadcast teams such as Rece Davis, Jesse Palmer and David Pollack will comprise the virtual booth and “take the mic for all other games.”

Among the gameplay features include Homefield Advantage, which will allow players to “through distractions like screen shaking, missing pre-play icons, and moving play art.” Additional features consist of Pre-Snap Recognition and the Wear & Tear System, which means virtual player stamina is affected by more play so it will be important to “manage your players’ health, limit fatigue, assess risk of injury, and avoid on-field mistakes by using strategic substitutions to ensure your players are at their best when it counts the most.”

The traditions within college football that make it one of a kind will be immersed in College Football 25. Along with team mascots and fight songs, the video game will include “unique team run-outs, rivalry rituals, synchronized crowd-chants, loudness meters as well as real game-day audio.”

Dynasty and Road To Glory modes are also offered in the video game alongside Road to the College Football Playoff, where players will “experience a new way to play competitively across consoles” and “earn rank by upsetting the toughest opponents and securing the votes you need to progress and level up divisions,” as well as College Football Ultimate Team.

College Football Ultimate Team will allow players to “build your dream team of college football stars and legends” in Solo Challenges or H2H seasons, and they can test their skill across consoles “in more competitive formats like College Football Ultimate Team Champs and Champs Gauntlet.”

EA Sports College Football 25 is available for pre-order now. According to Matt Brown of Extra Points, the video game will not be available for PC at launch. EA Sports is also offering an MVP bundle on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S that will include deluxe editions of College Football 25 and Madden NFL 25 “with 3-day early access and unlocks a multitude of benefits across both titles.”

Beginning this season, the “SEC on ABC franchise” will debut with the Miami–Florida matchup Aug. 31 at 3:30 p.m., according to a release. The SEC on ABC brand will include “a new graphics package, theme music and more.”

According to a release, all special date games and ESPN’s broadcast schedule for the first three weeks of the season will be revealed May 30. The network’s Bowl Season schedule will also be unveiled June 6.

ESPN’s College GameDay, which will welcome former Alabama head coach Nick Saban on set this fall, will begin the season in Dublin, Ireland, at noon on Aug. 24 when Florida State matches up in Week 0 with Georgia Tech. It will be the first time the show originates from outside the United States.

Saban and College GameDay will return stateside Aug. 31 from College Station where new Aggies head coach Mike Elko and Texas A&M will face Notre Dame at 7:30 p.m.

ESPN will also broadcast the Southeastern Conference debuts for Oklahoma and Texas. The Sooners will open at home Aug. 30 against Temple at 7 p.m., and Texas will host Colorado State on Aug. 31 at 3:30 p.m.

Deion Sanders and Colorado will also make their debut in the Big 12 Conference Aug. 29 when the Buffaloes host North Dakota State at 8 p.m. on ESPN.

ESPN’s run of teams in new conferences continues in the Atlantic Coast Conference on Aug. 30 when Stanford, departing the Pac-12 Conference, plays TCU at 10:30 p.m.

ESPN will also carry Kalen DeBoer’s Alabama debut against Western Kentucky at 7 p.m. on Aug. 31.

ABC will begin its Week 1 coverage in Atlanta at Mercedes-Benz Stadium where Dabo Swinney and Clemson will take on Kirby Smart and Georgia at noon.

Colorado and Nebraska both announced Monday that their Week 2 meeting on Sept. 7 will kick off at 6:30 p.m. CDT on NBC. It will be NBC’s first time broadcasting a game from Memorial Stadium since Thanksgiving Day in 1965.

Second-year head coaches Matt Rhule of Nebraska and Deion Sanders of Colorado will meet again after the Buffaloes earned a 36-14 win in Week 2 last season in Boulder. According to Sean Callahan of HuskerOnline via On3, that game drew more than eight million viewers. This fall, they’ll face one another in the first-ever evening matchup between the two programs at Memorial Stadium.

According to a Colorado release, NBC’s broadcast will be part of the Upfront program, which is “a presentation showcasing the network’s concentrated portfolio of sports, entertainment, news and streaming platforms to advertisers,” and it will pair with the network’s Week 1 broadcast of Fresno State–Michigan in Ann Arbor. Colorado was part of Upfront last season when it opened the campaign against TCU on FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff.

Colorado and Nebraska’s history dates back to their time together in the Big 12 Conference — which the Buffaloes will rejoin this fall.

Nebraska has a 49-21-2 advantage in the all-time series, though Colorado has won all three meetings since moving to the Pac-12 Conference following the 2010 season. They’ve split the past six games at Memorial Stadium since 2002.

Sanders and Colorado had nine games not on regional or conference networks in 2023, marking the most in program history according to a release. September’s game against the Cornhuskers will also be the first time the Buffaloes are broadcast on NBC since the Fiesta Bowl in 1995.

Rhule and Nebraska are looking to build off a 5-7 record in their first year together in 2023. Quarterback Heinrich Haarberg, who started eight games last season and led the team with 967 passing yards and seven touchdowns, and the Cornhuskers were No. 9 in the Big Ten Conference averaging 312.8 total yards per game. They also appeared in primetime on NBC last season at Wisconsin in Week 12.

Like the previous two, offensive players began the third day of the NFL Draft with Texas tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders going No. 101 overall to the Carolina Panthers and Troy Franklin reuniting with Oregon quarterback Bo Nix at No. 102 overall to the Denver Broncos.

Spencer Rattler, Jordan Travis become first QBs taken since Round 1

More than 100 picks went between the six taken in the first round on Thursday, which already set a record for most quarterbacks taken in the opening round of the draft.

Former South Carolina and Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler broke the streak in round four when he went No. 150 overall to the New Orleans Saints. 

Rattler leaves South Carolina as the all-time leader in completion percentage with 67.5% completion.

Former Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis was chosen No. 171 overall in the fifth round by the New York Jets. He later would be paired with wide receiver teammate Johnny Wilson when the Jets picked him in the sixth round.

Travis finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting last season despite suffering a season-ending broken leg in the second-to-last regular season game.

Alabama’s Jaylen Key is Mr. Irrelevant

Every year, the final pick of the draft is regarded as “Mr. Irrelevant.” It’s so widely recognized as a special selection that “Irrelevant Week” is an annual celebration that honors that last player picked in the draft recognized by the NFL, according to MrIrrelevant.org.

Alabama defensive back Jaylen Key is this draft’s “Mr. Irrelevant” as he was chosen No. 257 overall in the seventh round by the New York Jets.

Key played last season with the Crimson Tide after spending the previous four years with Alabama at Birmingham. He started 12 games at Alabama and made 60 tackles, one pass break-up and an interception.

Key earned an honorable mention nod in 2022 with the All-Conference USA team. He had three interceptions for the Blazers that season, tying for the team lead.

The 2024 NFL Draft continued Friday with the second and third rounds picking through No. 100 overall. It began with wide receivers Keon Coleman of Florida State and Georgia’s Ladd McConkey going back to back at Nos. 33-34 to the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Chargers, respectively, and ended with Rice’s Luke McCaffrey being picked by the Washington Commanders. No quarterbacks were selected after six went in the first round on Thursday.

More than 150,000 fans attended the draft on Thursday, and all 32 picks are listed in First Round Live Reaction: 2024 NFL Draft.

Michigan men go back-to-back in second round; Jim Harbaugh takes Los Angeles’ first Wolverine in third

Defending national champion Michigan sent an NFL Scouting Combine-record 18 participants to Indianapolis earlier this offseason.

Michigan saw six players drafted in the second and third rounds, bringing its total to seven so far this draft after quarterback J.J. McCarthy went No. 10 overall to the Minnesota Vikings.

Defensive tackle Kris Jenkins was the second Wolverine picked in the draft when he went No. 49 overall to the Cincinnati Bengals in the second round. He began back-to-back selections of former Michigan players as cornerback Mike Sainristil went next at No. 50 overall.

New Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh drafted his first former Wolverine when he chose linebacker Junior Colson in the third round at No. 69 overall.

The crosstown rival Los Angeles Rams selected former Michigan running back Blake Corum at No. 83 overall in the third round. He started a string of three-straight Wolverines drafted when wide receiver Roman Wilson went No. 84 overall to the Pittsburgh Steelers and guard Zak Zinter was picked No. 85 overall by the Cleveland Browns.

Harbaugh broke out in song among Chargers personnel during the draft in a video posted on X.

Kirby Smart shouts out drafted Bulldogs

Georgia continued its streak of at least six Bulldogs picked in every draft since 2018.

Four more of head coach Kirby Smart’s former players heard their names called in Detroit: McConkey and defensive backs Kamari Lassiter, Javon Bullard and Tykee Smith.

Smart shouted each of the four Bulldog draftees on Friday, as he did Thursday for former tight end Brock Bowers and tackle Amarius Mims.

College football players around the country shared on social media Thursday their participation in the upcoming EA Sports video game “College Football 25.”

EA Sports confirmed Thursday that all 134 Football Bowl Subdivision teams will be available to play in the new game.

More information about the game will be available in May, according to a release.

Players such as Michigan’s Will Johnson and Ohio State transfer Quinshon Judkins posted on X a graphic designed in their team’s colors promoting the video game.

ESPN broadcasters such as Rece Davis and Kirk Herbstreit shared posts confirming they’ll also appear as “one of the voices” of the game. Herbstreit posted “I’m so excited to FINALLY announce that I’m part of @EASPORTSCollege. I’m proud to be a partner and one of the voices of the game once again – my 14th year in that role.”

No Football Championship Subdivision school will be available to play when the game launches, according to ESPN.

If a player doesn’t opt into the “College Football 25” video game, then “a generic avatar based on the traditional strength or weakness of a position over the past decade for that school” will be created by EA Sports, according to ESPN.

According to Ryan Kryska of The Associated Press, users who could create and add players of real-life college football players who did not opt into the “College Football 25” video game will be blocked from doing so.

There are some that can lead to the Super Bowl, the grandest stage of them all where the two best teams in football meet one another for the top prize in football: the Lombardi Trophy.

Oklahoma leads the way with six former players who will appear in the Super Bowl. Georgia is close behind with five, and other programs, such as Florida and Michigan, have four each.

Rattler played two series at the start of the game. He connected with TCU’s Emani Bailey, Missouri’s Cody Schrader twice and once to Georgia’s Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint on a 29-yard touchdown, totaling 65 yards.

After Rattler and American scored to start the Senior Bowl, the National team went on to score 16 unanswered points all in the second half. 

Oregon’s Bo Nix connected with Minnesota tight end Brevyn Spann-Ford for a 2-yard touchdown to cap a seven-play, 55-yard drive that lasted 3:40 in the first quarter. 

All National needed then was three field goals kicked by Stanford kicker Joshua Karty from distances of 37 yards, 52 and 19.

Washington State cornerback Chau Smith-Wade dove for an interception with 1:38 left as the American team drove to National’s 16-yard line, and he returned it 83 yards to set up for Karty’s game-sealing field goal with 1:15 remaining. 

Smith-Wade was named National’s player of the game.

Among the other participants in the Senior Bowl included Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman, Tennessee gunslinger Joe Milton III and Tulane’s Michael Pratt. The three of them combined to go 20-48 for 194 passing yards and three interceptions, and Milton had two of them. 

2023 Burlsworth Trophy winner Schrader had a game-high 54 receiving yards across five receptions. He also carried the rock for 12 yards totaling 66 all-purpose yards. 

Bailey rushed for a game-high 53 yards. He averaged 5.3 yards per carry.

American outgained the National team 271 yards to 184. Neither team surpassed more than 94 rushing yards, while the American team committed four turnovers. 

Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. was part of the lead-up toward the Senior Bowl but decided not to play.

It was the first sellout at the Senior Bowl since 2010, according to The Associated Press.

According to Pete Thamel, former Kansas State quarterback Will Howard told ESPN that he intends to transfer to Ohio State.

Howard posted on X on Thursday evening his commitment to Ohio State.

The Buckeyes coaching staff “evaluated all of the top portal quarterbacks and arrived with conviction that Howard was the best among them, as they valued his arm strength, experience and dual-threat ability,” according to Thamel.

Howard transfers to Ohio State after four seasons with the Wildcats. He led them to a Big 12 Championship over national runner-up TCU during the 2022 season.

Howard’s passing and running combination reportedly won over the Ohio State coaching staff. In four seasons, Howard has 5,786 passing yards and 921 rushing yards.

This season, Howard had a career-high 2,643 passing yards and 24 touchdowns. He had 10 interceptions, but he also finished with a 61% completion.

Howard will be the second transfer quarterback at Ohio State under head coach Ryan Day. Day and the Buckeyes brought in Justin Fields during the 2019-20 seasons, and Fields led them to a College Football Playoff National Championship appearance.

Howard will arrive at Ohio State after former Buckeyes quarterback Kyle McCord transferred to Syracuse in December 2023.

For a third straight year, the Wolverines are back in the College Football Playoff as Big Ten Champions. They’re eager to return to the Playoff atmosphere that will be provided to them at the Rose Bowl, when No. 1 Michigan lines up to play No. 4 Alabama.

But the Wolverines haven’t had the most usual season or path taken to get here. Head coach Jim Harbaugh, who returned to the sidelines in the conference title game, was suspended for three games on two separate instances, once self-imposed by Michigan for alleged recruiting violations and a second time by the Big Ten for in-person scouting. 

But Harbaugh, like the Wolverines roster, is focused on one thing: the team mantra. 

“I wish I could peel back the layers of the onion and reveal something that was there. It’s just such a one-track mind,” Harbaugh said. “We have been about that one-track mind getting ourselves planning each week, preparing, practicing and then going out and executing, and the next game is always the is the goal. The next win, the next game. I wish I could tell you more. I wish I could tell you it was more than that. But it was just thanks to God for keeping us galvanized, thanks to our players, our staff for being such a joy to work with, and just appreciate that everybody adopted that one-track mind mindset.”

The Wolverines beat Ohio State for a third-straight year and won in Indianapolis to clinch the top spot in the Playoff this season, something they hadn’t achieved in their first two trips to the postseason. 

Michigan is looking to bounce back from a disappointing 51-45 loss to TCU a season ago and an early exit to eventual champion Georgia in 2021. 

Running back Blake Corum isn’t shying away from playing Alabama, saying “I love a good matchup and love a good challenge.” 

“It’s the moment I was born for, it feels like,” Corum said. “Being able to be the No. 1 team in the nation, first of all, play in the Rose Bowl against a great Alabama team, SEC versus the Big Ten, does it get bigger than this? I don’t know. So I’m super excited. I know we’re going to prepare like no other. Come that time we’ll be ready, but I’m super excited. I’m getting chills right now just thinking about it.” 

Corum remembers fondly the previous two trips to the CFP. He was held to 13 yards against the Bulldogs two years ago, and a knee injury forced him to miss the game against the Horned Frogs. 

But that doesn’t mean Corum doesn’t see a path toward a different outcome. 

“We need to take care of the small things,” Corum said. “The first year, that was our first time there, and you know, whatever, so we played a great Georgia team. I feel like then we were just happy we won the Big Ten Championship. Then last year, we lost to TCU. We didn’t execute at the highest level. We didn’t take care of the small things, and so this year, we must still be where our feet are, watch more film than ever and execute at the highest level.”

The Wolverines recognize their place in the CFP, as prestigious as the distinct No. 1 ranking is. They also recognize their opponent in Alabama, which got in the Playoff over 13-0 Atlantic Conference Champion No. 5 Florida State. 

“Unfortunate circumstance for FSU,” Michigan defensive lineman Kris Jenkins said. “That does suck. I feel for them.” 

Jenkins said Michigan preaches “to be the best you got to beat the best,” and he said Alabama has “been proving it.” 

The fourth-year defensive lineman said the Wolverines must “prepare a way lot more seriously” leading up to Jan. 1, 2024, when they play the Crimson Tide, and Jenkins said they’re “willing to take those steps.” 

Jenkins has also taken notice of Alabama’s offensive line, having paved the way for 2,245 rushing yards which are fifth-most in the SEC. 

“They got big boys in the trenches,” Jenkins said. “They play that trench ball. They can run the ball. And you know, we like to consider ourselves a physical team too. We got big boys. We got a lot of talent in the trenches. It’s definitely going to be a great game and we’re excited for that. That’s kind of the games we live for.” 

Like Harbaugh has said, Michigan has been built for moments that are coming up, such as its third chance to advance in the CFP against Alabama and silencing critics surrounding the entirety of its season. 

And Harbaugh doesn’t want anyone to be confused about his Wolverines team, either. 

“I want to say this, I mean, you talk about some of the — it’s a galvanized team,” Harbaugh said. “And some may think it’s galvanized by adversity. It’s not. It’s galvanized by choice.”

Michigan is set on playing the Crimson Tide, and Harbaugh said the Wolverines would have a week off in December before three full weeks of preparation for the Playoff. 

The Wolverines are ready to be zealous but not overzealous, anxious but not nervous and prepared — but not bound for an early exit this time around. 

“We played Alabama before, haven’t beaten them. We played Georgia before, haven’t beaten them. So we know it’s going to take our best,” Harbaugh said. “We’re going to have to play really good but before that we’re going to have to plan, we’re going to have to practice and get in the position to execute against really good football teams.”
